Overview Sorona is the latest advanced polymer platform developed by DuPont. Fiber manufacturers can use Sorona polymer to make a softer fiber, with superior stretch and recovery, than either polyester or nylon. A key ingredient of Sorona is 1,3 Propanediol (PDO), based on 3GT molecular polymer technology. Production of fiber-grade PDO currently is made in a petroleum-based process. However, DuPont Bio-Based Materials has successfully manufactured PDO using a fermentation process based on corn sugar, a renewable resource. DuPont plans a transition to bio-based PDO sometime in 2003. |
