Overview

When it was verified in 1988 that chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) like Freon® refrigerants were depleting the earth’s stratospheric ozone layer, DuPont announced that it would end its production of Freon® and other CFC-based products by the turn of the century. By the end of 1989 DuPont researchers had filed 20 patents for non-CFC refrigerants. DuPont introduced Suva® refrigerants and Dymel® propellants in 1990 as replacements for CFCs.
