Overview

The plant at Maydown, Londonderry, Northern Ireland, was DuPont’s first European production facility. DuPont formed its first wholly owned foreign subsidiary, DuPont (U.K.) Limited, in 1956 and began building the Maydown neoprene plant two years later. Neoprene production proved profitable and expansion followed. During the 1960s, DuPont began producing Hylene™ thermoplastic resins, a variety of plastics as well as Orlon® and Lycra® fibers at Maydown.
