Overview

By the early 1930s, DuPont’s Foreign Relations Department had identified the Argentinean market as “particularly opportune.” In 1933 the company acquired a Buenos Aires firm that exported chemicals and imported DuPont products. A year later DuPont and ICI entered the joint venture Industrias Quimicas “Duperial” S.A. Industrial y Comercial and began planning for a rayon plant at Berazategui, which opened in 1937. Operated by Ducilo S.A. Productora de Rayon, a Duperial subsidiary, the plant was built just 18 miles from Buenos Aires and served the Latin America textile market.
