Overview
DuPont’s involvement with films and photographic products began in the
1910s when researchers tried to develop a film base as an outlet for excess
nitrocellulose. DuPont formed a joint venture in 1924 called the DuPont-Pathé
Film Manufacturing Corporation which started making 35-mm movie film
in 1925 in Parlin,
New Jersey, and color film in 1927. In the early 1950s, DuPont focused
on non-cellulosic films and developed Mylar®
polyester film. Investigation of solid photopolymer compositions led
to Riston®
photoresists and Dycril®
photopolymer printing plates.
