Overview Wapwallopen, Pennsylvania, situated near the booming anthracite fields of northeastern Pennsylvania, was the first DuPont factory outside of Delawares Brandywine River Valley. DuPont had long supplied powder to the anthracite region through agents in Philadelphia and Reading, but as demands increased so did transportation costs. The company needed a factory closer to the mines and the mill on Wapwallopen Creek fit the bill. |
