While others, such as the short-lived Qiana®, struggled with the fickle fashion industry, Antron® found refuge on the floor becoming DuPonts signature carpet fiber in the 1970s. With changes and improvements such as better dying capability and a coating like Teflon® for easy cleaning, Antron® continues to be improved and appears on floors ranging from Mercedes-Benz showrooms to the Milwaukee County War Memorial. Antron® is made of type 6,6 nylon, significant for its tighter molecular structure, which gives the fiber unsurpassed strength and utility in high-traffic areas. In fact Antron® is often found on floors in assisted living communities, airports, corporate offices and schools. The carpet resists both dry and wet stains and shows superior ability to resist matting, crushing and other signs of wear. Antron® is known for its remarkable performance and longevity, but DuPont also promoted the fibers many design features. The DuPont Antron® Design Awards, that were given annually starting in 1983, recognized the most innovative uses of carpet in several commercial categories such as offices and public buildings. Though best known in its carpet applications around the world, Antron® nylon also is used in other fiber markets where long-lasting wear and weather and stain resistance are important, such as football uniforms, parkas and swimsuits. The Antron® trademark and Antron® products were divested as part of the INVISTA separation in April, 2004. < Back one page or click on the timeline to continue your journey. |
